Simon Armstrong

Simon has been in and out of theatre for years, but it keeps pulling him back! He has been involved with local theatre grounps in verious capacities for over a decade, first as stage crew and then moving to the stage! His first casting was as a palace guard in the pantomime 'Aladdin'. He then played Eugene in 'Grease the Musical'. recently he played the lead role of Rene Artois in WADAOS's production of 'Allo Allo'. He performed in our 2024 play 'One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest' and is in our upcoming production of 'Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat' He now joins our committee and we are happy to have him! Simon is looking foward to taking on new responsibilities with us on our production team, especially directing.

On Monday the 22nd July 2024 Whitehaven and District Amateur Operatic Society held its Annual General Meeting at the Red Lonning Community Centre at 7pm.


During the meeting the election of the Officers and Committee Members took place. We are happy to report the re election of Lynn McTiffin as the Chair Person. Lynn is a life member of he Society and has spent many years working hard in the society both on and off stage. Over the last few years she has been instrumental in ensuring that the society can continue for many years to come!

Our society President Ripley Steele was re elected to his role as the society secretary. The role of President is an honary role and is held for life. To be given this role is a great honour for Ripley and was given in recognition of his years of service to the society. Ripley is also our de facto Historian he was instrumental in collating the archives and historical records of the Society.

The Presidents Report given by Ripley will be Provided in a separate post.

James Last and Tracy McOuat were both re elected to the office of Vice Chair. James and Tracy are a great team and form the most part of our production team. They are both invaluable to the society and we thank them both for their continued work.

Alistair Jones was re elected to his ongoing role as the society Treasurer. Alistair has fulfilled this role for many years and is another member that is invaluble to us and the continued smooth running of the society.

Wendy Warden has taken on the difficult and important role as our Safeguarding Lead. This role was previously held by Alistair Jones and we thank him for all of his hard work in this role. Wendy is highly expereienced in these matters and will have the support of other members with expertese in this area. This is one of the most important offices in any organisation and we thank Wendy for taking on this responsibility and her assistants. Wendy also runs all of the societies social events. Her social report with follow in a separate post.
